Callan Capital Hosts USD Students

Callan Capital invited USD finance students to the La Jolla office for a tour, job role simulation and to learn about the wealth management industry. Callan Capital was first introduced to the students during Junior Achievement’s Stock Market Challenge, where they sponsored a student team. During the half day visit, students were treated to lunch, reviewed firm materials and learned as much as they could about the wealth management industry.

Callan Capital Serves Lunch at Ronald McDonald House Charities

The Callan Capital team volunteered to serve lunch at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. The organization provides a “home away from home” for families with children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals. The Ronald McDonald House relies on community support and is the only service of its kind that is open to families caring for children at any San Diego area hospital.

Families spend long days and nights at the hospital with their child. When they come back to their “home away from home,” a hot, nutritious meal gives these exhausted and overwhelmed families the chance to relax and connect with others before the next day starts.

Best Practices for Secure Data Transmission

Digital technology is constantly evolving, and so are hacking and fraud attempts. With increasing change and complexity, individuals need to be aware of best practices for electronically sending personal information. Unfortunately, email is not a secure method of transfer for confidential or personally identifiable information. In the event of an email breach or hack, everything contained in emails can be at risk to a hacker. Here are some recommendations to protect personal identity and the security of accounts.

What SHOULD NOT be sent over email:

  1. Your SSN in whole or part
  2. Passport numbers
  3. Foreign visa numbers
  4. Tax information or documents
  5. Credit reports
  6. Banking information
  7. Credit or debit card number
  8. Login credentials and passwords
  9. Financial documents and statements
  10. Account applications with account numbers
  11. Full account numbers (in general – as attachment or in an email itself)

If you are a client of Callan Capital, we recommend using our secure client portal when sending any documents or messages that contain the above information. If you are not a client of Callan Capital, we recommend sending information through a secure portal like Dropbox, password protecting files and verbally providing the password or encrypting files.

In addition, when receiving an email, take notice of the sender’s email address to ensure it is from a valid source. Verify the email address is from a legitimate website, contains no misspellings, or the sender is known to you. Make sure all hyperlinks and attachments are authentic before downloading, as hackers have used these techniques to gain access to your computer. Technology has allowed hackers to use minor changes in email addresses or websites to disguise themselves in attacking any electronic device that have internet access. Callan Capital is committed to investing resources in up-to-date technology and cybersecurity. If you have any questions, please do hesitate to contact us.

According to Nels Jensen, Editor in Chief of the San Diego Business Journal, “the SD 500 is based on these parameters: people who have founded or are running significant business in terms of the number of jobs, key products and services; experts who raise the level of industry here and beyond; and business people who lead in the community.”  Trevor was honored for his impact to San Diego business at an exclusive for the top 500 business leaders in San Diego.

Callan Capital, LLC (“Callan”) is a registered investment adviser with the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”). Such registration does not imply a certain level of skill or training.

The San Diego Business Journal’s “500 Influential Business Leaders” Award: Established in 1980, The San Diego Business Journal is a weekly newspaper in San Diego, California covering local business news. The San Diego 500 was built with the intent of providing a list of impactful leaders that reflected San Diego’s business community. The Business Journal started with people who have built and are leading successful companies, creating jobs and driving the San Diego economy. Experts were added who raise the level of business here and often compete on a national and international level. Included are risk takers, deal makers and people from our vibrant startup community, leaders from the sizable nonprofit sector and key connectors and facilitators from trade groups and business associations. The goal was to make the San Diego 500 the book of influential business leaders.

The editorial department of the SDBJ made the selections. The department asked for input from various trusted and credible local industry sources, but made the decisions on which categories to include, how many people per category and which people were included. The Top 500 were not required to pay for this listing. For questions regarding this listing you can email Nels Jensen at the San Diego Business Journal at 4909 Murphy Canyon Road #200 San Diego, CA 92123 or by emailing
